Intro

This is a simulation of a charged particle traveling through a nanoscale layered semiconductor structure based on the transfer-matrix method.

For certain configurations of the potential profile, the transmittance may exhibit a resonance peak at energies below the barrier height due to the quantum tunneling. This is the case in the default setting of the app below, with an electron traveling through two 2-nm wide rectangular barriers in a gallium arsenide (GaAs) layer.

1. Edit and apply a potential profile and effective masses — white-space separated sets of (x, U, m). Units: x in nm, U in meV, m in rest electron masses.

2. Compute the transmittance.

3. Retrieve the computed data.
